38th International Hume Society Conference

The 38th International Hume Society Conference will be held from July 18th – 23rd 2011 at

The Old College, Edinburgh


Hosted by The Hume Society and The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, with financial support from The British Academy, Manchester Metropolitan University, The Mind Association, and The Scots Philosophical Club.

Keynote speakers:

  • Don Garrett (New York University)
  • Susan James (Birkbeck College, University of London)
  • Karen O’Brien (University of Warwick)
  • Amartya Sen (Harvard University)
  • Catherine Wilson (University of Aberdeen)

Papers are invited on any aspect of Hume’s work. Papers should be no more than thirty minutes reading length with self-references deleted for blind reviewing; the author’s name should appear only on a front cover sheet. Papers may be submitted in French, Spanish, German, or English, but must include an English-language or French-language abstract. Authors are requested to submit cover sheets, abstracts, and papers in one file in either MS Word or rich text format (RTF). Cover sheets should include the author’s contact information.
